Dura-Con™

Share

Cinch Dura-Con D-shaped micro miniature rectangular connectors are designed for applications that require a rugged, high performance, densely compacted interconnect. Dura-Con is the ideal connector for applications where weight and space must be kept to a minimum while maintaining maximum reliability. Reliability is assured with the unique twist pin providing 7 points of contact when mated. Qualified (QPL) to MIL-DTL-83513, micro-D Dura-Con are one of the most widely used 0.05 inches (1.27 mm) pitch connectors. Typical applications for these connectors are miniaturized military and aerospace electronics and data processing equipment, where shorter signal paths are needed.

Exploded Connector

Each product family within the Dura-Con product line has similar construction.

Contacts

The twist pin is the heart of the Dura-Con product line. It maintains electrical conduction between pins and machined sockets during high shock and vibration. The pin is constructed of 7 wires around a 3-wire core. The twist pin is compressed to increase the diameter and cause an elastic interference fit a seven points of contact with the socket.

Shels

The shell is the protector of the connector. Often Al coated in either nickel or cadmium, the shell is also available as all plastic. The “D” shape of the Micro-D provides polarity to the connector, which prevents misalignment. Guide pins are used for polarization in the Strip family of connectors. Shells are available in a wide range of sizes, depending on the number of contacts required.

Shells

The twist pin is crimped to a lead of either a solder cup, a wire lead or a PCB pin.

A insulator provides two functions, 1. Contact alignment and 2. Dielectric to prevent shorts between contacts.

The Encapsulating epoxy also functions as a dielectric and provides some strain relief.

Hardware

Hardware is used for securely mounting the connector to a panel or to the mating connector. Depending on the installation, several options are available.
